Different viewpoints

Question 1 of 2 · Up to 250 words

In all our lives, we interact with people who hold different viewpoints than our own. Describe such an event you experienced. What did you learn from the experience?

How to approach it

  • Say plainly what the community is.
  • Show your place in it with one real scene.
  • End with what you’d bring to campus.

Personal statement

Question 2 of 2 · Up to 650 words

The Admissions Committee would like to know more about you in your own words. Please submit a brief essay, either autobiographical or creative, which you feel best describes you and helps us understand your interest in international affairs and your anticipated major.

How to approach it

  • Pick one moment and stay there. Readers remember a scene, not a summary.
  • Spend at least a third of the essay on what you thought and how you changed.
  • Read it out loud. If a line doesn’t sound like you, it isn’t done yet.
