What you write: Answer both short essays, the personal essay, and the essay for the school you're applying to.
Each school-specific prompt opens with a short description of that school; the question is below.
Short essay: your main activity
Briefly discuss the significance to you of the school or summer activity in which you have been most involved.
How to approach it
- Pick one activity, not your whole resume.
- Show one moment of what you actually did.
- Say why it matters to you, not only what it is.
Short essay: a different viewpoint
In all our lives, we interact with people who hold different viewpoints than our own. Describe such an event you experienced. What did you learn from the experience?
How to approach it
- Pick one moment and stay there. Readers remember a scene, not a summary.
- Spend at least a third of the essay on what you thought and how you changed.
- Read it out loud. If a line doesn’t sound like you, it isn’t done yet.
Personal or creative essay
As Georgetown is a diverse community, the Admissions Committee would like to know more about you in your own words. Please submit a brief personal or creative essay which you feel best describes you and reflects on your personal background and individual experiences, skills, and talents.
You may reuse your Common App personal statement if it fits.
