What you write: Optional. If you send an essay, answer one of two.
Bay Path lists the essay among optional materials (Honors programs and some majors have extra requirements). Common App asks you to answer its "Sex" question before it lets you add Bay Path.
Optional: a significant experience or risk
Tell us about a significant experience, accomplishment or risk that you have taken, and its impact on you.
Pick one of the two.
How to approach it
- Pick one moment and stay there. Readers remember a scene, not a summary.
- Spend at least a third of the essay on what you thought and how you changed.
- Read it out loud. If a line doesn’t sound like you, it isn’t done yet.
Optional: why your major
Tell us about the inspiration behind choosing your major of interest.
Pick one of the two.
How to approach it
- Start with the moment the interest began.
- Show what you’ve already done about it: a class, a project, a book, a job.
- Say where you want to take it, even if you’re not sure yet.
